Meet the Executive Board

Matt Tuttle

Matt Tuttle – President

Matt joined the San Jose Fire Department in 2008 as a Firefighter Paramedic and currently works as a Fire Engineer. Prior to joining the San Jose Fire Department, Matt was a Volunteer Firefighter for four years at a local fire department. Matt also teaches firefighter skills at the South Bay Fire Academy and paramedic skills at NCTI. Matt went to Bellarmine College Preparatory and graduated from Santa Clara University with a Bachelor's Degree in History. Matt currently lives in San Jose with his wife and two children.

Dan Vega

Dan Vega – Vice President

Dan was hired as a Firefighter/Paramedic by the San Jose Fire Department in 2002. In 2007, he was promoted to Fire Engineer, working on the West Side at Station 12 and promoted to the rank of Fire Captain in 2014. Dan served as the Burn Foundation President from 2011 to 2014. He has an AS Degree in Fire Science from Mission College. Dan is married to an ER Nurse and together they are raising their 3 kids: 8 year old twins and a 5 year old baby girl. Dan enjoys playing ice hockey.

Kim Borreson

Kim Borreson – Treasurer

Kim Borreson started in EMS in 1990 working for Freedom Fire. He joined San Jose the Fire Department in 2002. For the next 13 years, Kim served as a Firefighter Paramedic and FTO. In July 2015, Kim promoted to Fire Engineer and currently works at Station 22. Kim has 2 grown children and currently lives in Santa Cruz.

Mike Moses

Mike Moses – Seargent-At-Arms

Mike was hired into the San Jose Fire Department as a Firefighter in 2006, promoted to Fire Engineer in 2009 and Fire Captain in 2016. Mike has worked all over the City and is currently a member of the ARFF Special Operations team at the Mineta San Jose International Airport. Prior to joining SJFD, Mike was a Paid On-call Firefighter with a local agency. Mike joined the Burn Foundation in 2010 and has served as a Trustee and Sergeant at Arms.

Mike is responsible for the Burn Foundation’s Facebook page and the Website. He is an active member at Burn Survivors Kids Camp, Survivor’s Family Picnic and the American Heroes Charity Gala. Mike has his Bachelor's Degree and is a Returned Peace Corps Volunteer. He has completed 9 Marathons, 8 Triathlons and 1 Ironman.

Joe Pereira

Joe Pereira – Secretary

Joe has been a Firefighter/Paramedic with the San Jose Fire Department since 2009 and currently works at Station 5. Joe is a member of SJFD's Special Operations team and an active member of the Urban Search and Rescue (USAR) division. Joe lives in Capitola with his wife Megan and dog Dude. Joe enjoys the outdoors, surfing, camping, hiking and helping out with the Burn Foundation.

Jeff Alvarado

Jeff Alvarado – Trustee

Jeff has worked with the San Jose Fire Department since 2007. Jeff worked as a Firefighter/Paramedic for over 7 years and recently promoted to Fire Engineer. Jeff grew up in San Jose and attended Willow Glen High School. He lived in Tahoe for 6 years and has trained in avalanche safety. Jeff loves the cooking, being outdoors, snowboarding in the backcountry, surfing and long walks on the beach. Currently, Jeff lives in San Francisco and enjoy riding his bike to Marin headlands.

Mike Castaneda

Mike Castaneda – Trustee

Michael Jr was born and raised in San Jose and it has always been his dream to serve and protect the people of his community. Michael has been a proud member of the San Jose Fire Department since 2013 and currently works downtown at Station 8. He began his pursuit of a career in the fire service at an early age by becoming a member of the San Jose Fire Explorers while attending high school. He currently serves as an advisor for the Fire Explorers. He graduated from Mission College with a degree in Fire Science. Prior to joining the San Jose Fire Department, Michael worked for Cal Fire as well as a private ambulance company. Michael currently lives in San Jose and attends San Jose State University where he is finishing up his Bachelor’s Degree.

Jason Krassow

Jason Krassow – Trustee

Jason joined the San Jose Fire Department in January of 1995 as a Firefighter Paramedic and currently works at Fire Station 7. Prior to joining the San Jose Fire Department, Jason worked for PACMED, Medevac Paramedics in Santa Clara County and was a lead proctor at ETS Paramedic training school in Santa Cruz. Jason is also a proud Eagle Scout. He has worked the past 10 summers at a remote Boy Scout camp, volunteering his summer vacation to provide emergency medical care to sick or injured scouts.

When not at work, Jason enjoys wrenching on his garage-built race car, riding his motorcycle, going on remote camping experiences and spending time with his wife, two daughters and two crazy dogs. Jason has a unique connection with the Burn Foundation as his wife is a Registered Nurse at VMC Burn Unit.

Joseph Rondone

Joseph Rondone – Trustee

Joe was hired by the San Jose Fire Department in 2004, where he worked as a Firefighter Paramedic for the past 10 yrs, before being promoted in 2014 to Fire Captain. Since joining the San Jose Firefighter’s Burn Foundation in 2010 as a Trustee, Joe has been active in our Burn Survivor Camp, Hero’s Charity Gala, World Burn, IAFF National Camp, as well as bringing back the Firefighters Chili Cook-off in 2013. Joe is committed to the treatment and aid of burn survivors, as well as trying to encourage burn prevention programs in the community. In his off time, Joe lives life to its fullest with his family and friends.

Jamie Kerin

Jamie Kerin – Trustee

Jamie has been a member of the San Jose Fire Department since 1997. Jamie was promoted to Fire Captain in May 2017. Prior to joining SJFD, Jamie graduated from California State University, Hayward with a Degree in Political Science. Jamie has been a member of the Burn Foundation since 2013 and currently serves as a Trustee. In addition to being a member of the Executive Board, he is also a Burn Survivor. The exceptional care and kindness provided by Valley Medical's Burn Center team inspired him to join the Foundation.

He personally became acutely aware of the many challenges burn survivors face each day on the road to recovery. Jamie has attended Burn Camp, the Heroes Charity Gala and has been an active member updating technology at for the eight-bed Burn Unit at VMC. Jamie resides in the Sacramento Valley with his wife and their two young boys. In his spare time, Jamie enjoys coaching little league, camping and fishing with his family. As a Firefighter, the Burn Foundation gives him the opportunity to give back to the community.

Jim Aparicio

Jim Aparicio – Advisor

Jim joined the San Jose Fire Department in 2001. Prior to SJFD, Jim was a Fire Engineer for California Department of Forestry (CDF) in Auburn, CA. Jim has been an instructor for the SJFD academy since 2004. He has worked as a Firefighter at Engine 17, and both Truck and Engine 14. Jim was promoted to Fire Captain in 2011. He has since returned to Engine 14 on the West side of San Jose. On his off time he is also an instructor for the South Bay Regional Fire Academy. Jim has been an active member of the Burn Foundation since 2009 and currently serves as President.

Scott Coscarelli

Scott Coscarelli – Advisor

Scott was born and raised in San Jose and always dreamed of being a Firefighter. For over six years, he worked as an EMT, then Paramedic while going to school. After earning his college degree, he was hired by the San Jose Fire Department in 1998 as a Firefighter/Paramedic. Scott worked as a Fire Engineer from 2003 to 2014, and was promoted to Fire Captain in 2014. Scott has been a volunteer for the Burn Foundation for over ten years and held the Treasurer position for six years from 2010 to 2016. When not working, Scott and his wife Pam, along with their twins, enjoy traveling, camping, and spending time with friends.

Matt Chekouras

Matt Chekouras – Advisor

Matt was hired by the San Jose Fire Department in 2002. Matt is married to Gina, who is a 1st grade school teacher. They are proud parents of 1 daughter who is 3 years old. Matt enjoys the outdoors and likes to camp, hike and ride mountain bikes with his family and friends.
